    Our History

The Pioneer Cemetery was getting crowded and the brick yard and coal mine was being built around it marring the beauty of the cemetery. It was time to look for a new cemetery. The board looked for a place with plenty of land, reasonable distance from town, good drainage and access to water. The board wanted this new cemetery to have plenty of trees and flowers. Their point of view was "take a look at a cemetery and you can judge the character of the community as a whole. A community that cares".

The cemetery board was formed and consisted of Charles Hardy, Emil Johnsgaard, Lewis Newlon, C. Glasspool, A. Morril and F. Schafer. The committee found the perfect spot when they bought Emma Brown's 20 acres which was part of her homestead.

The Pioneer Cemetery closed in 1915 and the Fairview cemetery opened 1916. Relatives had to choose if they wanted to move their loved ones to the new cemetery or leave them where they were at.
